ibiScan does optical recognition of Swiss pay slip code lines. You can then use ibiScan to easily transmit the code line through Wi-Fi or email for use in your preferred eBanking solution.

The developer takes no responsibility for the possible consequences resulting from incorrectly scanned code lines. The user must always verify the correctness of the scanned data before making a payment.

The free version of ibiScan is fully functional with the exception that reference numbers cannot be transmitted; they will be replaced by zeroes.

If you have tested ibiScan and feel that it suits your needs, we encourage you to tap the shopping cart icon on the main screen to purchase the upgrade and remove the limitations. Once in the shop screen, wait until the spinning wheel is replaced by a blue button and tap it to imitate the purchase. Once the purchase is confirmed, you will immediately enjoy the full features.

ibiScan is a lot cheaper than most other solutions that require a scanner or a special USB pen and cost hundreds of francs!

Troubleshooting

  • If the spinning wheel stays indefinitely, verify that you are connected to the Internet (for example, browse to a webpage with Safari). If everything is in order and the problems persists, please try again later.
  • If you had purchased the upgrade in the past but removed ibiScan from you device for some reason, just initiate the purchase again. You won't be charged a second time.

In order to scan a pay slip, place it on a flat area and align the red laser beam at the bottom of the screen with the code line and stay steady for a few seconds. The code line is the string of numbers and symbols in the white square at the bottom right of the pay slip.

Make sure that the code line is entirely visible on the screen, that there is sufficient lighting and that there are no shadows over the code. You might need to turn on the torch by pressing the lightning icon (iPhone 4 and later only). If your iPhone has trouble focusing on the code line, touch either the focus icon or the laser beam to force refocusing.

Once a code has successfully been scanned, your device will beep and the verification and transfer dialog will appear. It is important to verify that the amount, account number, reference or IBAN were correctly scanned.

Note

Pay slips with IBAN have two code lines. If you would like to scan the recipient's IBAN, align the laser beam with the longer top line. If you want to scan the bank's account number, align with the shorter bottom line. It is unfortunately technically not possible to scan both lines.

Troubleshooting

If you are having trouble scanning some codes please see the points below:

  • Verify that you are scanning the code line and not another part of the pay slip
  • Make sure that the code line is entirely visible on the screen but not too small and aligned with the laser beam with the code centered.
  • Try to hold your device as vertically as possible over the pay slip.
  • If the image of the code line doesn't seem sharp, press the focus icon to force the camera to refocus.
  • Control that the pay slip is on a flat surface, isn't dirty and doesn't have any marks or folds on the code line.
  • In order to scan pay slips, the code line must be well and uniformly lit. Make sure there is no shadow over the pay slip and use the iPhone's torch or a desk lamp if necessary.
  • Currently, ibiScan has some trouble scanning pay slips under fluorescent light. If necessary, use the iPhone's torch or a desk lamp.

Some pay slips unfortunately don't respect the printing requirements and might prove difficult or impossible to scan with ibiScan.

Installing the ibiScan software on your computer

In order to transfer scanned data to your computer, you first need to download the ibiScan software for Windows or MacOS from the ibiScan website at http://www.ibiscan.ch.

You will then need to launch the ibiScan software. Once launched, the program will appear as an icon in the taskbar at the bottom right of the screen (Windows), respectively in the status bar at the top right of the screen (MacOS).

It is important that you allow the program to access the network or it will not work. Reply "allow" or "permit" to all requests from your firewall about ibiScan.

What to do in your payment program or eBanking website

Start by launching your favorite payment program or login to your usual eBanking website.

Then, navigate to the payment feature and locate and activate the option for pay slip code lines. It will usually be called something similar to "optical recognition", "pay slip reader", "scan", "pay pen" or "code line". If necessary, click in the code line entry text field to make it active.

Make sure that the code line entry text field has focus. It should have a blinking cursor inside.

You are now ready to scan pay slips. Scan a pay slip and verify the information in the verification and transfer dialog. Then select the "wifi" button at the bottom of the dialog box. If all went well, the code line should appear in the text box on your computer.

The next step is to complete the payment as required by your payment software or eBanking website. If you have more pay slips to scan, simply repeat the procedure.

When you are transmitting a pay slip with a reference number, the reference will be replaced by a zero if you haven't purchased the upgrade. Press the shopping cart icon on the scanning screen to go to the purchase screen.

Troubleshooting

  • If you don't see the "wifi" button in the transmit dialog, you need to go the settings and enable it.
  • If the reference is replaced by zero, you will need to purchase the upgrade by tapping the shopping cart icon.
  • If you get a message that no computer running ibiScan was found, make sure that ibiScan is running on your computer. Then make sure that both your iPhone and your computer are connected to the network. Finally, make sure that your firewall allows your iPhone to connect to the ibiScan software.
  • If you get a message about the inability to connect to ibiScan on your computer, please verify your firewall settings.
  • If the code line doesn't appear on your computer, make sure that the input text field was selected (by clicking in it).

If the problems persist, we recommend you to consult your system administrator, respectively a person knowledgeable in computers and networking.

Tap the "copy" button on the transmission dialog to copy the code line to the clipboard. You can then launch your payment app, connect to your ebanking website with safari or prepare an email and paste the code line. For more detailed information on where to paste the code line, please refer to the "wifi" section of the help.

  • If the reference numbers are replaced by zero, you will need to purchase the upgrade by tapping the shopping cart on the main screen.

Tap the "email" button to create an email with the data scanned from a payslip. Type your email address in the recipient field before sending the email. You don't need to type your email address every time, you can enter a default address in ibiScan's settings.

Upgrade

Purchasing the upgrade removes the limitation that reference numbers from orange pay slips are replaced with zero. Please refer to the help section about upgrading for more details.

Code Transmission

In this section, you can individually disable all the transmission methods that you don't use to have a cleaner verification and transmission dialog.

Email

If you use the email transmission method, save time by setting up the default recipient. ibiScan will then automatically fill the "to:" field in the email preview.

Misc

Tap the "Reset Tooltips" button if you would again like to see information dialogs that you have hidden by selecting the "Do not show this message again" checkbox.
